Business: Company Research

This guide is designed to help with finding company information such as profiles, overviews, financials, reports, SWOT analyses, competitors, and directories.

Getting Started

" "This guide is designed to help researchers find the following types of company information:

  • Company Profiles: Find analyst reports, SWOT analyses, directories, and other company information.
  • Financials: Find company financial statements and ratios.
  • Competitor Information: Generate competitor lists and find direct and indirect competitors.
  • News: Stay up to date with corporate news and current events.
  • Annual Reports, Web Directories, and Indexes: Find companies' investor relations and useful webpages.

Sources of Company Information

Companies themselves can be a good source of information via their websites, promotional literature, social media, catalogs, etc. Other information like trade secrets, specific strategies or plans, and internal information are usually withheld. Public U.S. companies are required to disclose financial information to the government, such as in 10K reports, 10Q reports, SEC filings, and state filings. Good sources of unbiased information include outside sources found in the news, scholarly or trade articles, social media, blogs, market research reports, analyst reports, and books.

How easy it is to find company information depends on many factors. It is easier to find information when researching a large established public company located in the United States and much more difficult when it's a new or small private company. International companies and subsidiaries can also be more challenging. Librarians are always available to help.

OneSearch & ProQuest

Search tabs from Library homepage. Left: OneSearch. Right: ProQuestOneSearch and ProQuest are the Fulton Library's main databases. They allow you to search the library's articles, books, streaming media, and more. OneSearch and ProQuest include resources on almost every topic, making it a great place to start your research!

To use either of these databases, go to the UVU Fulton Library Homepage link below. Use the tabs in the search box to navigate between OneSearch and ProQuest. Enter search terms into the box, then hit enter or click the magnifying glass.

We recommend using both databases because, while there is some overlap between the two, each database features a lot of unique content.
