In NSS 3350, you will be asked to write two essays in response to questions posed by Dr. White. Your essays will need to refer to outside research, either in the form of primary or secondary sources. Primary sources are documents created at the time an event occurs and can include diaries, letters, emails, government documents (usually), images, and much more. Secondary sources are articles and books that analyze primary sources to argue the author's thesis. For example, a historian might use policy documents and letters by government officials and diplomats to explain the development of the Warsaw Pact.
Once you've selected a topic but before you jump into the library's databases to find articles and primary sources, it helps to spend some time thinking about potential keywords so that you can explore different avenues of research. These questions can help you generate useful keywords:
