PHIL 2050: Ethics and Values

This guide is intended to help Philosophy 2050 students begin their research.

Getting Started

Word cloud showing synonyms for the word "ethics"This guide was created for students enrolled in Philosophy 2050: Ethics and Values to assist them in their research. While finding scholarly and historical philosophy articles may seem difficult, once you know where to look, it can actually be quite simple! The resources linked here will help you get started with this search.

We know that coming up with an original topic can be tricky. Here are some things to think about if you're struggling to come up with a good topic:

  • What do you care about? Use what you've learned in PHIL 2050 to examine the ethical issues of a sport, a type of business, a family tradition...the possibilities are endless.
  • What's new in the world? It takes societies a while to create ethics and laws to regulate new ideas, technologies, etc.
  • Browse some of the suggested journals on the Find Articles page of this guide. What are philosophers and researchers talking about?

Most Used Books

Here are some books that will be useful as you begin to form your ethical arguments for your PHIL 2050 paper. For books about ethics in specific topics and disciplines, see the Background Information page of this guide.
