SPAN 3200: Business Spanish

Search Tips

Magazine, trade publication, newspaper articles, and government websites can be excellent sources of information about business in other countries.

If you get too many results, try narrowing down your search by adding in additional keywords or terms related to what you want to find out about that country.  Are you looking for companies, industries, trends, forecasts, or something related to their regulations or operations?

If you don't get any useful results, you may be using too many keywords or need to think of your industry more broadly. For example, if you can't find any information on the country, maybe you should look for information on the geographic region.

Most words have synonyms that mean the same, or very similar, things. For each keyword in your topic, try to come up with at least one synonym or another very similar keyword. Not all keywords will have synonyms, but many do!

Example 1:

Keyword: growers

Possible synonyms: farmers, small farms, smallholder

Example 2:

Keyword: fair trade

Possible synonyms: fairtrade, sustainable agriculture

Example 3:

Keyword: Buenos Aires

Possible synonyms: Argentina, South America

Searching in Spanish

If you need to search for sources in Spanish, your keywords (and their synonyms) will need to be in Spanish, too. The database does not translate articles or information about articles from one language to another.

Accents are generally ignored and are not required for this type of searching.
