Finding Articles

The key to finding quality articles for your research is to make sure you have a definite question in mind. When you define the question, it's much easier to understand what kind of information you need to answer it.

The second step is to evaluate where you might find good articles, ebooks, textbooks, videos, etc. If you're stuck, there is a list of databases below that should be able to help you find items you need. You can also schedule an appointment with the subject librarian and work one-on-one with her.

The third step is to consider how you want to construct your search. For example, is there a technical term for the phenomenon you're looking into? Is there a person whose work you want to examine in-depth in your paper? Do you need information about the mathematics that drive certain processes? You should be able to get answers to this question by examining the question you are answering in your research. Putting a lot of thought into what you're actually looking for makes it so much easier to determine what to search for.

If you're having trouble constructing a search, please check the search strategy page located on this guide.

Interlibrary Loan

If you can't access the full text of an article using any of the resources on this page, use Interlibrary Loan to request the article. We'll locate another library that has the article and get you a PDF copy for free; this typically takes 2-3 business days. UVU students and employees should never pay for articles—the library has you covered!
