Getting Started

Image of symbols for eight major world religionsResearch about religion can take many forms, from diving into specific beliefs and practices to looking into how faith affects culture or psychology. This guide can help you get started on your research by presenting background information, recommending databases and websites, and offering search tips and tricks.

For best results as you search:

  • Try to focus your research question on something specific, such as a group of people, a subtopic, or a particular religion.
  • Use the background research to narrow your topic and find scholarly language (jargon) to use as search terms.
  • Use citations in relevant articles and books to find more sources.
